How to remove a transparent film properly Remove transparent films by using the taffy-pull method. Lift up a small corner of the film and pull it horizontally to the skin. Repeat with the other 3 corners until it is off. I have also used body lotion to help remove all sorts of tapes, films and VAC drapes. Pull up one edge and apply lotion to the base of the tape. Keep applying lotion as you are removing the tape. Leaves the skin nice, but may need to wash the skin with soap and water as new tape, film, etc. may not stick to the lotioned skin. Cheryl R. For Adhesive Removal:

I have found that "Skin Prep" works best for removing tape adhesive with little to no effort and no discomfort to the patient.

Rubbing alcohol removes transparent dressings, just rub it over the top of the dressing and it pulls off easily.

Always use a skin prep on the area of the skin where an adhesive is going to be placed. This includes all contact film with a wound VAC , any tapes , clear dressings, etc. The skin prep forms a layer between the skin and the adhesive and there is no pain/ discomfort when removed.

I also have found that if a person is "allergic" to adhesive......especially the silk tape adhesive, if I use the skin prep thoroughly , there are no problems encountered by the patient with the use of silk tape.
